Helping the Pakistani Christian asylum seekers in Thailand and Malaysia

Running from persecution to persecution, that’s what life is like for Pakistani Christians in Thailand and Malaysia. They left their valuables, loved ones and their identities to become asylum seekers in countries that recognize them only as illegal immigrants. They escape oppression and other challenges in one country, just to find more obstacles in another.

The United Nations of High Commissioner for Refugees in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur give a time period of 3-4 years of limbo to assess asylum seekers’ cases and to resettle them in a third country. However, UNHCR doesn´t realize how harsh each and every moment is for these stranded and psychologically disturbed people to survive in a foreign land with no work permit, job, education for their children, medical assistance nor food to simply feed their families.

Many hopeless Pakistani Christian refugees have attempted suicide and many die while waiting for their resettlement. Those who are lucky enough to stay alive are converted into living corpses seeing the daily suffering of their children and loved ones.

They constantly live under the fear of being detained by the Thai or Malaysian police who consider them as illegal immigrants, and face the risk of being taken to filthy detention centers where the conditions are beyond inhumane. From the youngest of children to the most elderly are packed into rooms where just catching a breath is a struggle.

They need our help to survive while UNHCR studies their cases and resettles them to safe third nations. They are in need of food, clothes, education for their children and medical assistance.

Galatians 6:2 of the Bible says; “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ”.

This Word of God should make us fight for our persecuted Christian brothers and sisters. May God strengthen us for helping the Pakistani Christians in Thailand and Malaysia and open doors for them to have normal life in safe third nations where there will be no sword hanging over their heads for worshipping Christ.
